Fine Arts

Philosophy

God created humanity for one purpose – to glorify Him. In an effort to maximize our ability to worship Him, He blessed us with God-given creative abilities. These abilities certainly include the arts. A few examples of these abilities are music, painting, and singing. In short, our hope in attempting to foster the creative abilities of our students is to encourage their hearts to worship their Creator. An example of this can be found in Psalm 19:1-2.

The heavens are telling of the glory of God;
And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.
2 Day to day pours forth speech,
And night to night reveals knowledge.

Course Offerings

  • Music and Art – K4 through Seventh Grades
Through both of these courses, students are encouraged to express their artistic gifts in a “hands-on” setting. Students participate in both classes on a weekly basis.
  • Music Appreciation – High School Course
This course challenges students to learn about both music history and theory. Throughout this course students are challenged to appreciate music as a means of worshiping God.
  • AP Art Appreciation – Online High School
This course is designed to foster in students an understanding and knowledge of architecture, sculpture, painting, and other art forms within diverse historical and cultural contexts. Students examine and critically analyze major forms of artistic expression from the past and the present from a variety of cultures. Students will able to identify the presence or absence of Biblical truth reflected in art and architecture through the centuries.

Fine Arts Competition

Students in the sixth through twelfth grades have the opportunity to participate in the Georgia Association of Christian Schools (GACS) state fine arts competitions. Students can choose to compete in the categories of music, art, academic testing, spelling bee, and speech. This competition is conducted on an annual basis and includes Christian schools from across the state.

Many of Covenant’s students, both current and former students, have received superior ratings at the GACS state competitions. Several CCA high school students have also earned the honor of competing in the American Association of Christian Schools (AACS) national fine arts competitions in South Carolina.

Annual Performance Events

  • Grandparents Day
Covenant Christian Academy hosts an annual Grandparents’ Day every November. This special day includes a program for grandparents in which Covenant’s K4 through fifth grade students share songs, poems, and skits or present a children’s musical.
  • Christmas Chapel
Middle and high school students, under the leadership of CCA faculty, organize and lead this annual chapel for students and their families.
  • Talent Night
Every March, K4-12th grade students have an opportunity to share their music, art, dance, acting and other forms of talent by presenting them on Talent Night. This special evening has become a popular family event enjoyed by everyone who attends.

Chapel Music Ministry Team

Students in 7th through 12th grades with vocal and instrumental music interests can volunteer to be part of the chapel music ministry team. This is an excellent means for students to express their personal devotion to God while actively seeking to lead others in worship.
